Expository Writing 10-11

Ideal for motivated and verbally talented students with an interest in writing about philosophy, criticism, and social issues, the Expository Writing course introduces students to a variety of essay structures and modes of essay development. The course presents a valuable opportunity for close work with a master writing teacher, skilled teaching assistants, and other young writers in a workshop atmosphere. Students will examine historical and modern writing samples as they experiment with and ultimately begin to develop their own style and voice across a variety of writing tasks.

Session One will examine the essay form, and students will explore a vast and sprawling genre that comprises a broader variety of forms and possibilities than most people realize. Session Two will explore the relationship between writing and visual art, and students will emerge with an expanded sense of both fields.
