Tuition for Credit
Tuition is assessed according to the schedule listed below. Stanford students will be assessed the undergraduate or graduate rate based on the degree program that they are pursuing. Visiting students will be assessed either the undergraduate or the graduate rate depending upon current matriculation.

For certification purposes (such as deferment of most educational loans), matriculated undergraduates must be registered for at least twelve units to be considered a full-time student. Matriculated graduate students must be registered for at least eight units to be considered full-time students. Visiting students must enroll in at least twelve units to be considered full-time students. Health Insurance Fee. All students enrolled in Summer Session are required to have major medical insurance. The University will automatically charge $756 to your account to cover the cost of health insurance. Those who do not request a waiver of the University's insurance coverage by Monday, June 15, 2009, will be liable for the $756 health insurance premium. University health insurance can be waived on Axess if you have alternative coverage. International students are required to enroll in Stanford's health insurance plan.

Document Fee. A one-time $80 fee is charged to all students, except students who have previously paid it. The fee offsets the cost of maintaining student records and processing transcript and other registration related documents.

Telecom Fee. All residential students must pay $52 for telephone and Internet service in the room. A number of add-on features are available by subscription from Information Technology Student Services (ITSS). Telephones are provided; students must bring their own computer for in room use.

House Dues. A fee of $50 is charged to all students in Stanford housing for Summer 2009. House Dues are for services not included in room rent, such as educational programs and social activities. This fee is subject to change.

Books and Supplies. Plan on spending around $420 on books and supplies. Costs will vary depending on the courses you enroll in. This cost is not part of your University Bill.

Parking. Parking permits are available through Stanford's Parking & Transportation Services office. For day students, please consider proximity to classes and the number of days you will be on campus per week when making your permit purchase decision. For residential students, you will need to purchase the appropriate "RES" permit to park your car on campus.

Refunds
It is the responsibility of the student to drop courses, annul registration or withdraw from the University by the end of the summer quarter.

Dropped Courses. A tuition adjustment is made when a student drops one or more, but not all courses. The deadline for tuition adjustment due to dropped courses is July 12, 2009. Thereafter, adjustments to tuition are not permitted when a student withdraws from courses. For further explanation, contact the Office of the University Registrar.

Annulled Registration. Registration is annulled and tuition is refunded in full when a student withdraws voluntarily from all courses before the first day of instruction. The student is not included in University records as having registered for the term, and a new student will not secure any privileges for admission for any subsequent quarter as a returning student. An annulment does not automatically cancel health coverage unless the annulment is granted before the first day of instruction.

Withdrawal From The University. For students who must leave their studies after the first day of instruction, refunds are calculated on a per diem basis (including weekends and University holidays) starting the first day of instruction of each quarter. Tuition is charged on a daily basis (including weekends and holidays) through the first 60% of the quarter. After the first 60% of the quarter, students are liable for the full amount of tuition that they were charged. Tuition refunds are calculated based on the date that the student informed the Summer Session Office of their intention to withdraw. An annulment form must be submitted to the Summer Session Office in person, by mail, by fax, or by email in a timely manner.

For courses and institutes that do not meet the above standard schedule, consult the Office of the University Registrar. Registration after the designated deadline for timely registration does not extend tuition refund periods.

Students seeking information about room and board refund policies should consult Housing Assignments.

Scholarships/Financial Aid
Summer Quarter financial aid is available only to Stanford matriculated undergraduate and graduate students. Questions should be directed to Stanford's Financial Aid Office or by email at financialaid@stanford.edu. Visiting students should check with their home campus for financial aid arrangements.
