Residential Life

All dormitory rooms are equipped with a bed and a desk for each student. In addition, each room has a private telephone, and all rooms come wired for an Internet connection. Pillows, bed linens, and towels are not provided.

Housing Assignments
All students who accept a housing assignment must sign a Stanford University Residence Agreement, a legal contract that governs occupancy and conduct in University housing. If you refuse a housing assignment, you are charged a $50 administrative fee. If you accept and later cancel an assignment before taking occupancy, you are charged $100-$200.

Specific room and roommate assignments are made by the High School Summer College Office after students have accepted their place in the residential program and submitted their individual profiles and Residence Agreement forms. Room and roommate assignments are not available until the opening day of the program.

Once you take occupancy of your assigned room, you are required to live in Lagunita Court for the entire period of your summer contract. Summer visitors are released from their obligation to pay rent for the entire term of their contract only if they terminate their registration.

Terms of Occupancy
Lagunita Court opens for occupancy on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 10 a.m., a day of move-in activities and the beginning of University orientation. Housing for the eight-week session ends at noon on Sunday, August 17. Without exception, no student may move into the dorm before June 21 or remain in the dorm after noon on August 17. All students are expected to arrive on June 21. Any exceptions must be approved by the Director of Admission & Student Services.

Room Rates and Dining Services
Students are billed for summer housing on the Summer Quarter University Bill. Rates quoted are subject to change.

Meals are served cafeteria-style in the Lagunita Court dining hall. High School Summer College students will be assigned to a 19-meal per week plan.

Student Housing (per person rate):
Lagunita Court: $1,422, for the eight week period

University Dining Services Plan:
19 meals per week: $1,283, for the eight week period

Activities & Campus Life
Weekends and evenings are packed with field trips, intramural sports, dinner with a Nobel laureate, informal discussions with Stanford faculty, outreach projects, boardwalk excursions, and adventures on and off campus. Popular weekend destinations include San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Monterey.

Summer College participants become fully immersed in college life, sharing the campus with Stanford undergraduate and graduate students. Intellectual, social, and cross-cultural exchanges create exciting opportunities for personal growth.

Summer students also have full access to swimming pools, tennis courts, handball and squash courts, a fully equipped gymnasium, basketball and sand volleyball courts, a golf course, and other facilities devoted to track and field, softball, soccer, field hockey, and fencing.

There are opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and cross-country running. State Parks, numerous lakes, streams, and California's beautiful beaches are all within reach.

Students are required to remain on campus for the first two weekends of the program. Under no circumstances are students permitted to miss classes for the duration of the program.
