For Parents & Guardians of Our Residential Students

Parents and guardians often worry when students venture away from home, especially if the students are traveling long distances. We appreciate the confidence that you place in us to provide your child with a safe and enriching experience.

Summer at Stanford furnishes high school students with the building blocks to successfully make the transition to college life. The residential program allows students to practice independent living skills, learn how to manage their time, live cooperatively with a diverse group of peers, and challenge themselves to succeed in a new environment.

The High School Summer College program is designed to closely replicate the college experience while giving students the extra guidance needed as they acclimate to being self-reliant and adjust to mastering college-level courses. Our Resident Mentors, who live in the dorm with the high school students, are carefully selected and trained Stanford undergraduates. The Mentors are chosen for their maturity, warmth, and ability to be outstanding role models. They are accomplished young scholars who are eager to provide the guidance and tools that high school students need to succeed.

In addition to Mentors, a Residence Counseling Dean also lives on site. This individual has extensive training and experience in attending to a variety of student situations. To assist with scholastic needs, the High School Summer College provides academic advising throughout the duration of the program. Students also have access to tutoring at no charge, primarily for core math and science courses.

If your child requires medical treatment, Vaden Student Health Center is conveniently located on campus and provides excellent, caring service. Stanford Hospital is only minutes away if a medical emergency occurs.
