Topics in Bioscience and Biotechnology
This course introduces students to general methodologies and principles for study and research in the biosciences while getting a glimpse of advanced research and exciting developments in a more specific area of study. The course may include guest lectures and course-related field trips, and may include a lab component. Topics for Summer 2017 will be Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (Session 1) and Neurophysiology (Session 2). Note course topics are subject to change.

Session 1 & 2

June 25 - July 14
July 17 - August 05

Age and grade requirements:

1. 8th - 9th grade at the time of application.
2. age 13 - 15 on the first day of the session.
Investigations in Bioscience and Biotechnology
Cutting-edge research in bioscience and biotechnology draws upon ideas and methods from a broad range of academic disciplines spanning the sciences, engineering and medicine. Three areas of bioscience and biotechnology will be represented, and each section is led by an instructor who does research in the particular field. In each case, students learn general methodologies and principles for study and research in the biosciences while getting a glimpse of advanced research and exciting developments in the specific area of their section. The course may include guest lectures and course-related field trips, and each section will include a lab component. For Summer 2017, the fields of Neuroscience (offered in both sessions), 3D Bioprinting (tissue engineering -- offered in both sessions), Nanobiomaterials (Session 1), and Virology (Session 2) will be represented. Note that section topics are subject to change.

Prerequisite(s)

Completion of one year of high school biology.

Age and grade requirements:
