Admission

In order to fully assess each applicant, the Summer Institutes require several items that allow students to highlight their academic talents and interests. The Summer Institutes evaluate each applicant holistically, taking into consideration not only grades and test scores, but also students’ unique experiences together with their passion for learning.

  1. In addition to the Preliminary Application, a complete application consists of:
  2. A submitted Online Application – Available after completing the Preliminary Application.
  3. Payment of the $50 application fee – This fee can be paid online using a credit card or check.  Instructions for payment can be found at the end of the Online Application.
  4. Work samples – Many courses require samples of student work. Click the link for a detailed list of required and optional work samples. Allowed file types: PDF, DOCX, DOC, RTF, and TXT. Download 2017 SI Work Samples and Prompts.pdf (147.98 KB)
  5. A copy of your school transcript or most recent grade report – Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Allowed file types: PDF, JPG, TIF, GIF, and PNG. If you have multiple transcripts, combine them into a single file for upload, with your most recent transcript first.
  6. Teacher recommendation – On the Online Application, you will be able to request a recommendation from one or more teachers qualified to comment on your performance and ability in the Summer Institute subject area(s) to which you are applying. You may submit more than one recommendation form if you are applying to multiple subject areas. Required information: teacher’s full name, school name, subjects taught, email address, phone number, and the application deadline for each recommendation request.
  7. A copy of a recent standardized exam score report – Any standardized exam administered at the international, national, or state level is acceptable.* Allowed file types: PDF, JPG, TIF, GIF, and PNG. A standardized exam is an externally administered test which provides both a score report as well as an evaluation of the score relative to other test takers. *While any standardized test score is acceptable, applicants who have recently taken the ACT, PSAT, SAT, or TOEFL should submit their results with application materials.
